Pricing

How much does it cost to paint a house in Calgary?

The cost depends on the size of your home, the condition of the surfaces, the paint products selected, and how much prep work is needed. Because every project is different, we provide free detailed written estimates so you know the exact price before we start — request yours here or call (403) 667-3064.

How much does it cost to paint a 2,000 sq ft house interior?

For a 2,000 sq ft interior, pricing depends on the number of rooms, ceiling height, the amount of trim and doors, wall condition, and paint choice — two homes of the same size can differ quite a bit. The fastest way to get your exact price is a free estimate.

Hiring a painter

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. MV Painting Inc. is licensed and insured, and we carry WCB coverage for our crew. We’re happy to provide proof of insurance along with your estimate — just ask.

How to know that you are hiring a professional painting company?

Look for a company that is licensed and insured with WCB coverage, provides detailed written estimates, has verifiable local reviews, and stands behind its work. We’ve been painting homes and businesses in Calgary and surrounding areas since 2008, have 305+ Google reviews, and back every project with our 2-year warranty on workmanship.

Anyone have a recommendation for a Calgary-based painter?

We’d be honoured to earn your recommendation. MV Painting Inc. has served Calgary and surrounding areas since 2008, with 305+ Google reviews from local homeowners and businesses. Call (403) 667-3064 or request a free estimate and see why our customers recommend us.

How do I choose a painter in Calgary?

Choose painters in Calgary who are licensed and insured with WCB coverage, provide detailed written estimates, and have verifiable local reviews. Ask about their prep process, the products they use, and whether they guarantee their work — and always get the scope, timeline and price in writing before the job starts.

Interior painting

Can you paint over old oil-based paint?

Yes. Painting over oil-based paint requires proper preparation — cleaning, sanding, and applying the right bonding primer before the new topcoat. We assess the existing surface during the estimate and use the correct products so the new finish adheres properly and lasts.

How to get rid of paint odor?

We can use low- and zero-VOC paints that produce minimal odor — just ask for them in your estimate. We also ventilate the work area during and after the job, so any light paint smell typically clears within a few hours.

Timing & scheduling

How far ahead should I book a painter in Calgary?

For most projects, booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead is ideal — and some jobs can even be scheduled within a week. Exterior slots in the busy summer season go fastest, so earlier is always better. Call (403) 667-3064 and we’ll find a time that works for you.

How long does a typical interior or exterior painting project take?

Most single rooms take 1–2 days, while a full home interior usually takes 3–5 days depending on size and detail. Exterior projects typically take 3–7 days depending on the size of the home and the weather. You’ll get a clear timeline in your written estimate before we start.

Is it okay to paint indoors during the winter?

Absolutely — winter is actually a great time for interior painting. Indoor conditions are controlled so paint cures normally, and scheduling is often easier outside the busy exterior season.

Process & prep work

Do I need to move all of my furniture?

We ask that you clear small items and valuables from the work areas. Our crew moves the larger furniture to the center of the room and covers everything with drop sheets and plastic for full protection.

Can we stay in the house during interior painting?

Yes — most of our customers stay in the home while we work. We paint one area at a time, keep the workspace tidy and ventilated, and coordinate with you so your daily routine is disrupted as little as possible.

DIY vs professional

Should I hire a painter or do it myself?

It depends on the size and complexity of the job. DIY can work for a single small room, but a professional crew delivers a better finish in less time — with proper prep, the right products, clean lines, and no mess left behind. For whole homes, exteriors, high walls, or cabinets, hiring a pro is almost always worth it.

Is it cheaper to hire a painter or do it yourself?

DIY saves on labour, but once you add up quality paint, primer, brushes, rollers, drop sheets, ladders, and your own time — plus fixing mistakes — the gap is often smaller than people expect. A professional job also lasts longer, which saves money over time. Get a free estimate and compare with real numbers.

Warranties & quotes

What should a professional painting estimate include?

A professional estimate should clearly list the areas to be painted, the prep work included, the products to be used, the number of coats (our standard is two coats), the timeline, and the total price — with no vague line items. Our free written estimates include all of this, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Why can two painting quotes for the same house be very different?

Quotes differ because of what’s included: the amount of prep work, the quality of paint, the number of coats, whether drywall or stucco repairs are covered, and whether the company is licensed, insured, and carries WCB. A lower quote that skips prep or uses cheap paint usually costs more in the long run. Always compare what’s included, not just the bottom line.

Do you offer a painting warranty?

Yes — we back our workmanship with a 2-year warranty. If paint peels, blisters or flakes because of how it was applied within two years of completion, we’ll fix it at no charge. All materials are guaranteed as specified, and if anything isn’t right, we’ll make it right.

Why do you require a deposit?

We ask for a 30% deposit to secure your booking. It locks your start date in our schedule and lets us pre-order your paint and materials so your project starts on time. The deposit is applied in full to your project total — it is part of your price, not an extra fee.
