How Much Does It Cost to Paint Stucco in Calgary?

There is no honest flat price for painting stucco, because no two homes need the same work. The price is built from the size and height of the walls, the condition of the stucco, the repairs it needs, the texture, and the coating system you choose. That is why MV Painting provides a free, written, itemized estimate after seeing your home — so the number you approve is the number for your stucco, not a guess from a chart.

What actually sets the price

Size and height. Stucco is priced from the surface to be coated: the size of the home, two-storey walls and high peaks mean more product, more ladder, scaffold or lift time, and more masking.

Condition and repairs. Cracks, delaminated patches and water-damaged areas have to be repaired before coating — paint does not fix failed stucco. Small crack repairs are part of standard preparation; extensive patching is quoted separately and approved by you before any work is done.

Texture and previous coatings. Heavy textures take more product and more time to cover evenly. Previously painted stucco in sound condition is a different job from raw stucco that has never been coated, and failing or peeling coatings must be removed or stabilized first.

Colour change and coats. Our standard is two coats. A dramatic change — dark colours to light, for example — can need an additional coat for full coverage, and that is quoted separately rather than buried in the price.

Coating system. A premium elastomeric coating costs more per gallon than a standard exterior acrylic, and it is often the right choice for stucco (see below). The product you choose affects material cost, and we explain the differences during the estimate so the choice is yours. We work with Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Cloverdale, Dulux, Behr and PPG.

Preparation and masking. Pressure washing, masking windows, doors, roof lines and fixtures, and protecting landscaping and hardscaping are all part of a proper stucco job — and part of the price.

Access. Tight side yards, sloped lots and mature trees change the setup and the equipment the job needs, and the estimate reflects that.

Elastomeric or standard exterior paint?

Elastomeric coatings are thicker and flexible: they bridge hairline cracks, shed water and move with the stucco through Alberta freeze–thaw cycles, which is why our stucco work uses premium elastomeric coatings applied by spray. A quality 100% acrylic exterior paint can be the right call on sound, previously painted stucco that does not need the crack-bridging or waterproofing. Which system your home needs depends on the condition of the surface — that call is made at the estimate, not from a price list.

Why we do not publish price ranges

Per-square-foot charts copied from other websites mix textures, repairs and coating systems, and they cannot see your walls. A range that assumes no repairs and a basic acrylic tells you nothing about a home that needs crack repairs and an elastomeric system. Instead, every MV Painting estimate is written and itemized line by line — each wall, repair and product is listed — so you can compare our quote against any other on scope, not just on the total. A 30% deposit secures your booking date once you approve the proposal.

Common questions

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. Estimates are free, done after assessing the project, and provided in writing with an itemized breakdown. There is no obligation to proceed.

Does stucco need primer before painting?

Bare stucco, repaired patches and chalky or weathered surfaces need the right primer or conditioner so the finish coat bonds evenly. Sound, previously painted stucco in good condition may not need full priming — we assess the surface during the estimate and include only the preparation your stucco actually needs.

Can cracked stucco be painted over?

Cracks should be repaired before coating, not buried under paint. Hairline cracks can be bridged by a premium elastomeric coating; wider cracks and damaged or delaminated areas are patched and repaired first, and extensive repairs are quoted separately and approved by you before any work begins.

How long does a stucco repaint last in Calgary?

Lifespan comes mostly from preparation and the coating system: a properly washed, repaired and primed surface finished with premium exterior coatings stands up to Alberta freeze–thaw cycles and sun far longer than a quick coat over failing paint. Every MV Painting project is backed by a 2-year workmanship warranty.

When is the best time of year to paint stucco in Calgary?

Exterior stucco is painted in warm, dry weather — in Calgary that is typically late spring through early fall. We book projects about 2 to 4 weeks ahead, so the best time to request an estimate is a few weeks before you want the work done.
